Sleepy Shores: A Seal's Sanctuary
by Gregor Luetzenburg, Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), Copenhagen, Denmark
Nested along the rugged coastline of Big Sur, a group of seals sought refuge on this pocket beach. Its sands were golden, its waters turquoise, and its cliffs stood tall as guardians of tranquility. After a morning of playful dives, the group settled down for a nap. Meanwhile, the world around them continued its timeless dance. The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a soft glow upon the tranquil scene. Seagulls soared overhead, their cries mingling with the distant roar of the waves. The cliffs stood silent sentinel, their rugged forms bathed in hues of orange and gold as the day drew to a close.Time drifted by, painting the sky in hues of orange and gold. When the seals awoke, the sun was low, casting a fiery glow. With yawns and stretches, they bid farewell to their haven, knowing they'd return to find solace in its embrace. And so, under the watchful stars, the seals slipped back into the sea, leaving behind whispers of their presence on the sands.
