Tranquil Horizons: Iceberg's Journey at Sunset

by Gregor Luetzenburg, Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), Copenhagen, Denmark

After a long day in the Greenlandic wilderness, I stood on the sparse Arctic tundra on an island off the coast of Greenland. Twilight bathed a tranquil sea with distant icebergs, and the sun set over the horizon, casting a warm glow upon the water. The air was still and crisp, and the only sound was the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore. It was a peaceful and serene scene, and I felt fortunate to witness it. As I observed, I pondered how the icebergs had come to be. Once part of a much larger ice sheet, they had broken off and drifted away, reminding me of the fragility and resilience of the natural world. I watched the icebergs a little longer until the sun was almost gone, and the sky turned a deep blue. The icebergs began to disappear into the darkness, and the tundra became a silhouette against the sky. I knew I would never forget this experience. It served as a reminder of the beauty and power of nature, a moment I would cherish forever.
