Coastal Cave "Firewater" near Azure Window and Dweira Bay, Malta
by Djamil Al-Halbouni, GEOMAR - Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, Kiel, Germany
Along the Maltese Island of Gozo karstic coastal caves are dominant. This one here, near Dweira Bay, exhibits a glimpse into the sea and gets flooded during storm events. The unique light conditions with the rims of the Dweira Bay Palaeosinkholes make this a spectacular location to observe past and present coastal erosion and subsidence processes.
