GPS measurements at Dettifoss, Iceland
[ Photo shows: woman holding high-accuracy GPS measuring device, with Dettifoss waterfall in the background ]
On this particular field day, a young girl approached me and my female colleague whilst we were taking gps measurements in the field. She was over the moon to be meeting "real life women geologists" and expressed that one day she was going to be a geologist herself so she could find diamonds of her own. Representation matters, and we need to push for more women to be showcased as an #ActualLivingScientist.
