Moonset with earthshine

We had waited all evening, hoping for the clouds to disappear to watch the stars, when we saw the crescent moon gently but quickly floating down behind the mountains. It painted the entire sky in a pale light long after it had vanished in the valley between two mountains. Despite the thick clouds, the earthshine is visible, hinting at the round nature of Earth's moon.
