View of both inactive and active hydrothermal chimneys and associated life at the Barite Field (2400 m depth). These structures result from the interaction of seawater circulating through the oceanic crust and the Earth’s internal heat, and supports unique ecosystems that are likely analogues for possible life in other parts of our solar system.
