The interdisciplinary mole – surfacing to explore the aquatic realm

The photo was taken during a hike near Lunz am See in Austria. While I was hiking up a mountain, I heard a noise next to me. I turned around and was surprised to see a mole playing in a small stream flowing down the mountain. To me, the mole symbolizes the connection between the different disciplines of soil and aquatic sciences. The mole is crossing the boundaries between its comfort zone in the soil to enjoy a little time in the stream.
