Kelvin Helmholtz instabilities observed from the research aircraft HALO

by Peter Hoor

This picture was taken during a research flight with german research aircraft HALO during the WISE mission in September 2017 (wave driven isentropic exchange).
The cloud pattern indicates the occurrence of turbulence at the tropopause above a so called warm conveyor belt and indicates mixing processes in the tropopause region.
