Tiny FIB section on its holder

by Thomas P. Ferrand, Earthquake Research Institute, Tokyo, Japan

SEM view of a focused ion beam section, 10 microns large, 100 nm thick.
The FIB section is a cross-section of an experimentally-produced pseudotachylyte, associated with Mw -6 labquake. This intermediate-depth earthquake analogue was triggered by DDST, “Dehydration-Driven Stress Transfer” due to antigorite dehydration during deformation experiments in a D-DIA.
