A volcano from the other side of the world

This photo was taken during an aerial overflight of the White Island in January 2018.
Even though that’s the most active volcano in New Zealand, sulphur mining was attempted several times until the 1930’s. If you take a closer look, you can still see the remains of the buildings, now corroded by the sulphuric gases.
