A hint of an eruption

by Eva P. S. Eibl

This deep blue water accumulated in a depression surrounded by circular crevasses on the ice surface of Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland. The formation of this depression is interpreted as indicator for a subglacial eruption in August 2014 that occurred while seismicity migrated laterally at 3 to 8 km depth for two weeks until a subaerial eruption started.
