Mass wasting on the dolerite escarpment, kunanyi (Mt Wellington)
Vertical columns of in situ dolerite and mass wasting material on the 1200m elevation escarpment overlooking Hobart. Dolerite columns fail through toppling and rock fall much of it occurring in previous periglacial conditions. This material has created an apron of colluvial material on the flanks of the mountain that is periodically remobilised as debris flows.
