Like every grain of sand
by Antonio Jordán, University of Seville, Sevilla, Spain
Sand is formed by mineral particles of size between 0.05 and 2 mm. The sand comes from the fragmentation of the rock, so it has its own chemical and mineral composition. The most common component is quartz. Other frequent minerals are orthoses, plagioclase, oscovite, biotite, hematite, goethite, calcite, chalcedony and gypsum.
