Petrified Tree
by Lars Hoffmann, Jülich, Germany
The photography shows a piece of petrified wood from the Late Triassic, about 225 million years ago. Silica and traces of iron oxide created varied colors of the logs, almost making them look alive. The photography was taken in the Petrified Forrest National Park in Arizona.
