Fractures in the sand
by Anne Schöpa
The fractures originating from the propagation of a magma-filled dyke in the shallow subsurface prior to the 2014-15 Holuhraun eruption in Central Iceland dissect the plain and an older hill. The nearly continuously blowing wind has already started to mask the fractures with fine sand. The Vatnajökull icecap with a faint cloud cover is visible in the background.
