Ash drive to the cracks
by Anne Schöpa
Scientists investigate the fractures originating from the propagation of a magma-filled dyke in the shallow subsurface prior to the Holuhraun eruption, September 2014-February 2015, Central Iceland. The dark Holuhraun lava field and the Baugur crater can be seen in the background, with the snow-covered flanks of the Askja caldera towering in the far field.
