Hedenbergite - Ilvaite skarn, Calamita, Island of Elba
by Samuele Papeschi, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy
Radiating crystals of greenish Hedenbergite inter-grown with blackish Ilvaite in skarn bodies. Skarn formed as a result of the interaction between geothermal fluids coming from the Late Miocene Porto Azzurro monzogranite, and Mesozoic marble, within whom skarns occur as lens-shaped bodies.
