Haplic Cambisol on peridotite
by Antonio Jordán, University of Seville, Sevilla, Spain
Sierra Bermeja is located on the European shore of the Strait of Gibraltar. It is the world's largest peridotite outcrop. Although most of the slopes are heavily degraded, the summit is occupied by the southernmost European fir forest (Abies pinsapo). This is an example of representative forest soils in the area.
