Hikers on Svinafellsjokull Glacier, Vatnjokull Ice Cap, Iceland
by Ragnar Sigurdsson (arctic-images.com), Iceland
One of the most spectacular ice falls of the Oraefajokull volcano (western slopes) bears the name Svinafellsjokull. Most of the ice forces its way between the peaks of Hvannadalshnukur and Hrutfjallstindar, heavily crevassed and with somewhat gigantic proportions. Walking tours in its lower and rather flat reaches, in the company of experienced guides, are very popular.
