Cropped soils in La Geria
by Antonio Jordán, University of Seville, Sevilla, Spain
La Geria is a characteristic region of the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands (Spain). The area is dominated by volcanic lapilli soils, which are used for wine production. In this extremely arid landscape, vines are planted in holes and protected by drystone walls. This contributes to reduce evapotranspiration and protects against dry wind.
