Flood on the Cerknica intermittent lake
by Cyril Mayaud, Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU, Postojna, Slovenia
The Cerknica polje is one of the most important features of the Classical Karst (Slovenia) and can be flooded several time a year, depending on precipitations intensity. It creates then an intermittent lake which is also the biggest lake of Slovenia. During the summer the water disapears totaly through the karst ponors and the polje is used as pastry field.
