by Adam Ciesielski, Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, Poland
The Ilulissat Icefjord was listed as UNESCO World Heritage. The Ilulissat glacier, (Sermeq Kujalleq) is a highly active, fast-moving glacier in West Greenland. As one of the world;s most productive glaciers, it produces about one tenth of Greenland's icebergs and is a major contributor to Northern Hemisphere sea-level rise.
The stacked stationary "icebergs" in the fjord bay are called "ice melange".
