Where Glacier Retreat Reveals the Apu

Near Ausangate, the mountain is known as an Apu, a living spirit in Andean cosmology. Around us, recently deglaciated slopes exposed bedrock, sediments, and remnant ice, recording rapid glacier retreat in the Cordillera Vilcanota.
