Rainbow greets 'drunken trees' in the Low Arctic.
by Georgia Hole
Evidence of our changing climate is signalled by these 'drunken trees' in the Taiga / Low Arctic tundra transition zone in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Northwest Territories, Canada. Warming temperatures thaw permafrost, creating thermokarst environments that destabilise the shallow roots of permafrost-adapted species, and creates these novel tilting spruce trees.
