Temperature Sensor Final Check
by C. Nur Schuba, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, United States
On the D/V Chikyu, an engineer performs a final inspection on the outer cover for a temperature sensor before the borehole observatory installation during IODP Expedition 502E. This last step is critical to ensure the instrument will be able to withstand the extreme conditions and operate accurately in the borehole to collect temperature data from the plate boundary fault in the Japan Trench.
