Sensor String Deployment
by C. Nur Schuba, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, United States
On the D/V Chikyu, the ship's crew works in coordination on the rig floor to lower a borehole observatory sensor string into the seafloor during IODP Expedition 502E. This system will record minute temperature changes deep beneath the ocean, helping scientists monitor processes along the Japan Trench.
