The living iron speaks
by Ahmed Morad
A fascinating microphotograph of a well-preserved gastropod shell replaced by pyrite (Iron disulfide), as seen under reflected light microscopy. The amazing point in this fossil is that it archives the presence of Phanerozoic fossils in a dolostone that host base metal and gold mineralization, which is entrapped between Precambrian basement. The illustrated polished mold comes from the Hamama polymetallic gold prospect, Egyptian part of the Arabian-Nubian Shield.
