Cold Katakekaumene in Kula
by Aziz Aşar
This image shows lava flows in Kula, Manisa, formed by volcanic activity in the region. The molten lava once flowed across a wide plain, spreading laterally before gradually cooling and solidifying. As the lava lost heat, it crystallized into basalt, creating a dark, solid rock surface. The morphology reflects fluid lava dynamics, where low-viscosity magma allowed extensive horizontal flow before solidification. These formations represent volcanic resurfacing processes and provide important evidence of relatively recent geological activity in western Anatolia
