Braided Majesty of the Brahmaputra at Sunset
by Abhishek Borah, Universidad de Chile, Santiago, Chile
Captured during a flight over Guwahati, this image reveals the expansive braided channels of the Brahmaputra River, the world’s largest sediment-carrying river. From above, the river unfolds as an intricate network of shifting channels and sandbars, sculpted continuously by immense sediment loads and seasonal flows. Bathed in warm sunset hues, the scene highlights both the dynamic geomorphology of the Brahmaputra and the sheer scale of its fluvial processes, an ever-changing landscape written by water, sediment, and time.
