Farewell to a Swiss glacier - Verbier, Switzerland
by Janosch Beer, ETH Zurich - Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology, Zurich, Switzerland
Glacier de Tortin in July 2025. Descending Mont Fort, as one of the many free-ride areas of 4 Valées (Verbier, Switzerland). The glacier used to fill out most of the valley below in the 1980s but has now shrunk to a small remnant of its former self. Many of the smaller Alpine glaciers are starting to disappear on a rapid pace. Lets capture these icy giants when they are still around.
