Calcite Crystals from Egypt’s Eastern Desert
by Ahmed Mohy, Egyption, Damanhour, Egypt
A close-up image showing calcite crystal formations inside a rock cavity, collected from Egypt’s Eastern Desert near the New Administrative Capital. The translucent to milky white appearance and rhombohedral cleavage are characteristic of calcite. This mineral often forms in sedimentary environments and can precipitate from groundwater, filling fractures or cavities in rocks.
This sample was captured using a smartphone camera with a macro lens, showcasing the natural beauty and crystalline detail of calcite under basic fieldwork conditions.
