The Guardian of the Desert

by Maela Baldan, Università degli Studi di Padova - Department of Geosciences, Padova, Italy

During a summer walk in the arid desert of the Bardenas Reales de Navarra in Spain, raising my eyes upwards, I saw a clear figure of a wolf dog between the rocks of a creek. The strong profile of the rocks brought out so perfectly the silhouette of an animal in the intense blue color of the sky with white spots. I was alone inside the dark creek, but when I saw that figure, I felt safe and I was comforted to think that the desert holds a guardian that protect its inhabitants. Depicted by hard edges, I imagined a proud animal with a soft coat like the white clouds.
