Twilight at the Strait of Malacca — A Golden Exit from Asia's Maritime Crossroads
by Junshu Lin
Aboard an Indian Ocean voyage, we sailed past the Strait of Malacca — the pulsing artery of global trade. As dusk settled, the western horizon blazed with a golden fire. Distant rainclouds glowed like molten amber, while higher up, the last rays of sunlight carved through textured cirrus clouds, dyeing them deep crimson.
The sea held its breath. For a moment, even the hum of the ship faded, leaving only the sky’s silent theatre: layers of gold, rose, and violet stretching endlessly over the water. It was a farewell painted in light — a reminder that beyond this narrow passage lay the vast, open embrace of the Indian Ocean.
