Stromboli, the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean"
Northeast crater of Stromboli volcano (Italy) from the Pizzo sopra la Fossa, in January 2011. The long exposure of the picture allows for the observation of the trajectory of incandescent projections and gases exhaling through the ground. Stromboli is nicknamed the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean,” for its persistent explosive character since the Roman ages.
