Cross-section of a brachiopod from the shelly phosphorite of Estonia, former Ülgase mine
by Sophie Graul, Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn, Estonia and France
Cross-section of a relatively preserved brachiopod from the Tramadocian phosphorite formations of Estonia. The specimen still presents almost pristine laminae structures with high porosity (originally organic-rich layers) and few zones pyritised due the degradation of organic tissues and micro-redox conditions.
