Glacier investigation
by Stan Schouten, PhD fellow, Universität Bern, Bern, Switzerland
Imagine giant, icy rivers carving through the Earth, carrying immense amounts of rock and soil. This is the awesome power of glaciers. Their relentless movement not only sculpts the landscape but also acts as a time capsule. Trapped within their depths for decades is ancient air that holds the key to understanding Earth's past climate. By studying these ancient air bubbles, scientists once made the first groundbreaking discoveries about paleoclimate. However, with glaciers rapidly vanishing, our window into the past is closing. We must quickly collect data from these irreplaceable archives before they disappear forever.
