Marine Terrace? Sehnenberg?
by CiJian Yang
The eastern coast of Taiwan is affected by long-term sea level change and continued crustal uplift.
Ancient debris flows blanket the marine terraces composed of mudstone. On the left side, the sea erodes at an average rate of one meter per year. On the right side, rivers await the opportune moment to cut through the marine terraces. Finally, after a typhoon, the rivers manage to break through. From the sea, it appears as remnants of marine terraces. From the river, it is called a sehnenberg.
