Moiry Glacier Forefield (Western Swiss Alps)
by Sebastian Vivero, Department of Geosciences, University of Fribourg, Fribourg, Switzerland
This photograph shows the substantial melting of stagnant, debris-covered ice on the forefield of Moiry Glacier in the Western Swiss Alps. The terminus of Moiry Glacier has rapidly receded, resulting in a large section of debris-covered dead ice that is collapsing. Crevasses and vertical ice cliffs are also visible.
