Million years of history
The photo was taken in the Fortaleza Canyon in Serra Geral National Park. The image shows abrupt cuts in the terrain. These faults are formed by near-vertical walls of volcanic rock formed by lava eruptions over the continent during the Mesozoic Era. In the region known as Aparados da Serra, these burials can be between 700 and 1000 meters thick. The photo shows the gorge of the Fortaleza Canyon and the size of the lava flows in this place can be seen.
