Australian orbicular granite
by Silvia Favaro, Università Milano Bicocca, Milano, Italy
The orbicular granite comes from the area of the Boogardie quarry, 35 km west of Mount Magnet (Western Australia). It contains abundant granitic orbicules floating into a more leucocratic tonalitic body. The orbicules are oval in shape and usually display concentric black and white bands. The outer band is more fine grained and within the inner bands it is possible to find some radially aligned horneblende crystals.
