Foggy ridges
by Antonio Jordán, University of Seville, Sevilla, Spain
When coastal eastern winds from the Straight of Gibraltar find the mountains in the European coast, condensation forms fog on the slopes that keep moisture throughout the year, so that even in very dry summers, plants have available water. This has helped to form a luxuriant vegetation in Los Alcornocales Natural Park (Cádiz, SW Spain).
