The Middle Magdalena Valley
by Maria Cristina Arenas Bautista
The middle Magdalena valley is a region located in the northern central part of Colombia. This region has more than, one million inhabitants and, the main economic activities are focused on: agriculture, oil a gas exploitation and mining. These activities, produce a water demand, and it is expected that their allocation will be generated from a water quality analysis, keeping the environmental flows for the preservation of wildlife.
However, these dynamics present some problems. For example, around the water supply the problem is the lack of knowledge about water volumes. Around the water demand, the problem is the applied differential payment. And, around the social aspects the problem is the conflict between users.
