The dwindling Arctic sea ice, Fram Strait
by Maria Scheel, Aarhus University, Roskilde, Denmark
During the expedition lag PS107 with the German Icebreaker "Polarstern", we passed through the Fram Strait between Svalbard and Greenland in August 2017. This part of the Greenland Sea is characterized by both a northward current of Northern Atlantic water in the East and a Southward Current of Arctic waters in the West of the Strait, in summer carrying the thinning Arctic sea ice.
