Frozen heart in Norwegian winter
by Katja Laute, Trondheim, Norway
An almost perfectly heart-shaped stone is completely surrounded by lake ice. Usually this stone is below the lake level but during winter times the lake level is so low that it becomes visible. The lake ice is composed of diverse crystal arrangements which formed during light winds allowing crystals to grow on the surface without being broken up by waves.
This image was taken in winter along the shoreline of Selbusjøen, a lake in central Norway.
