The imminent dangers
by Carlos Melo
With several volcanic eruptions in historical times (the last in 2014-2015), Fogo volcano (Cabo Verde) represents a constant danger to local inhabitants. But not only... 73 ky ago a massive flank collapse of the Fogo's edifice produced a huge tsunami that largely affected Santiago Island (from where the picture was taken). The view between the fog of the summit of Fogo volcano reminds the constant danger not only for Fogo Island inhabitants, but also for the remaining islands.
