Forest of Tree-like Ice Crystals
by Roshanak Tootoonchi, University of Trento, Trento, Italy
Water droplets manifesting a forest of tree-like ice crystals.
It was -9°C in the morning when I captured this photo, in Tabriz a city in East Azerbaijan province, Iran.
Tabriz is a city known for its cold winters, heavy snow and winds.
In the past years, Tabriz - affected by the climate change and global warming like every other place on Earth- haven't had the same climatic behavior; only light snow showers, warmer temperatures, and in general it's safe to use the term: "Tabriz has lost its touch".
Statistics and past records reveal that by the arrival of winter in Tabriz, the temperature would have gone to 20 °C below zero accompanied by heavy snow.
