Keep Following the Water
These meandering lines belong to « Petit Nice » Beach, at the feet of the Dune of Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe and its 60 million cubic meters. Caused by the ebbing tide, these features exhibit characteristic drainage patterns of water-carved channels. The striking colour contrast is caused by the presence of a compacted peat layer. These flows are reminiscent, on a whole different scale, of satellite photographs from ancient dendritic outflow channels the martian surface.
