Ground Control to Major Tom
by Petra Schneider, Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia
Heavy mineral fraction (including zircon grains in vivid interference colors and apatite in yellow and blue) separated out from a Cretaceous granite (Moslavačka Gora Mt., Croatia) and inserted in the epoxy resin as a step in the preparation for the geochemical analysis and age dating with the LA-ICP-MS. Photo is taken after the laser ablation (visible dark spots as the craters left) with the aid of petrographic microscope under crossed polarizers. Magnification 25x.
