Tiger Leaping Gorge under the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
by Lian Sun
The gorge has narrow width (less than 150 m for the water surface) and high elevation difference (the water surface is at 1700 m a.s.l., and the top of the right bank or the left part in the picture is more than 5500 m), and the slope is the very deep that many places are nearly vertical. The vertical distribution of climate is significant ranging from subtropical, temperate, to cold. The upper area of the right and left bank are the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain respectively, both covering with permanent ice and snow. They are usually too high to be shown when you are in the deep bottom of the gorge.
