Contrasted island in the Mozambic Canal
by Jean Roger, GNS Science, Lower Hutt, New Zealand
Mayotte is a little French oversea department being part of the Comoros Archipelago, between Madagascar and East Africa. Due to natural erosion and human deforestation on one side, and heavy rainfalls on the other side, some places called Padzas are no more able to host vegetation, exhibiting the tropical common red soil.
